I had seen the trailers for this film, but wasn’t really sure 100% what it was about. I didn’t do any research on it before hand, but I knew it was about a dog in the military and that’s all I needed to know.
I was happy I took the jump and saw the film. For those who don’t know, its a movie about a girl (Megan Leavey) and her getting assigned a combat dog (Rex). They will be partners and go to Iraq, he will sniff out bombs and weapons there and she will guide him. Their journey doesn’t start off easy, but how they establish their friendship was adorable.
The film was easy to follow, moved at a nice pace, and featured Tom Felton who was Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. He had an American accent, which wasn’t the best but it was a nice surprise to see him in there.
What would I have changed? Megan is said to have a best friend who *SPOILER* died, and this dramatically changes life for her, but we never got to see this said friend nor see any of their bond so it was hard for me to feel sad for her about an unknown face. I get that it wasn’t about that, though.
It definitely sheds light on the amazing work that these working dogs do, and it must not be taken lightly. It also sent a nice message about labeling a dog “aggressive” under the wrong circumstances.
Sometimes all it takes is understanding.
